Perry Thurston is an attorney from Plantation, Florida and Democratic politician who serves as the representative for District 93 of the Florida House of Representatives. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2006 and was successively reelected. He serves as democratic ranking member on the Civil and Criminal Justice Policy Council and the Tax and Finanace Council.

Representative Thurston is a third generation Floridian and a graduate of Pompano Beach High School, class of 1978. His parents are Frances Mosley and Perry Thurston, Sr. After graduation, he immediately matriculated to Morehouse College, graduating with a B.A. in Finance in 1982.

After returning to Florida, he actively participated in critical community issues and worked in the banking industry from 1982-1984. He attended the University of Miami’s School of Law, earning a Jurist Doctorate Degree in 1987.

Upon graduation, Thurston continued his community activism in all areas from coaching little league sports to serving as President of the local Bar Association. He joined the Broward County Public Defender’s Office as Assistant Public Defender in 1988. He moved into private practice in 1992, where he specializes in criminal defense and public finance.

Thurston was elected as State Representative for House District 93 in 2006. He was re-elected in 2008. He is the Democratic Ranking Member of the Finance and Tax Council and the Criminal & Civil Justice Council. He also serves on the Policy Council, Select Policy Council on Strategic and Economic Planning, Rules and Calendar Council and Joint Council on the Federal Economic Stimulus.

Representative Thurston was a leading proponent for the restoration of civil rights legislation. He has held several workshops assisting ex-felons navigate through the restoration process. He has lead voters’ registration initiatives and conducted economic empowerment workshops for local businesses. He has also spearheaded the resurgence of youth baseball within the local black community.

Mr. Thurston has received numerous honors and humanitarian awards and is a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He is married to the former Dawn Board. They have two children, Alison Thurston and Perry E. Thurston, III (Trey).
